First, there are no easy shortcuts. Marketing is a long term game, and it requires hard work and consistency for it to work in the end. Just like running a business.

Second, We are in the business of generating happy customers. We’re not trying to coerce everybody into buying something. We are trying to make the people who are willing to listen, happy. Build relationships that will make selling to them infinitely easier later on.

The third and last principle you need to understand, is that marketing is a system.

There is untold power when we see everything as interconnected…

We can identify patterns and trends that produce positive effects (to amplify them), and negative effects (to suppress them).

Component parts of a system will act differently when isolated. What we are looking to do here is make a fully functioning system that works towards one goal, one direction

Every single component is working towards a goal and working together to build something greater than what they can achieve by themselves.

Think about a car engine. Even if you don’t know much about how engines are made, you know they are composed of many parts.

Pistons, rods, belts, etc.

By themselves, they accomplish relatively little.

If I handed you a piston and nothing else, you might be able to use it as a paperweight. But when you put all the components together, and they are all working towards a single goal (making a heavy piece of metal move) it suddenly becomes infinitely useful.

Adapt this thinking to marketing in general.

If your goal is to bring in more business, why are your marketing channels not working together to reach this same goal? Most businesses keep marketing channels separate even when they are trying to do the same thing.

Your channels don’t connect to each other, they don’t speak to each other. They aren’t working together.

This creates a whole host of issues, but the most glaringly obvious problem is that you’re spending resources (time and money) building a piston (not an engine) and then wondering why the car (your business growth) isn’t moving.

But building a system is complex. There’s a lot of moving parts, a lot data and a lot of unique situations to overcome.
