Navigating the world of advertising can often feel overwhelming and frustrating.
Agencies and marketers knocking on your door telling you they are the best and can get you all the leads, but after working with them you realize that all they are doing is prioritizing their own profits over your needs and goals.
With complicated reports and no description as to what the numbers mean or why they’re relevant.
Your contact disappears after turning the ads on so you don’t even know if they’re doing anything.
And at the end of the contract you were locked in to, they made money and you got nothing to show for it.
You’re not the only one that feels this way. I hear it all the time.
A client of mine, let’s call him James to respect his privacy, was originally referred to me by another client.
He contacted me directly to set up a meeting.
He was very wary at first, having been burned in the past, he told me he was keeping his options open.
He wanted to find someone he could trust.
James had a buddy who was a marketer, we’ll call him Anders. James trusted Anders enough to let him run his Google Ads since James knew very little about it.
Apparently, Anders would often boast his expertise in advertising and how he would be doing James a favour by taking up his account.
They worked together for two years.
James would often refer other businesses that needed ad help to Anders since they knew each other from way back.
James was getting clients from the ads, but it wasn’t anything to write home about.
He would sometimes contact Anders to get an update and ask for ways to improve the ads, but Anders would often be too busy to talk.
Anders set up automated reports to be sent to James every month, but James had no idea what these numbers meant.
James could just see that his bottom line wasn’t improving, even though he was spending a substantial amount of his profits in advertising.
One day, James got a phone call from a friend he referred to Anders months ago.
This friend was very unhappy with Anders, both on results and how she was being ignored.
James of course understood where she was coming from, and realized this pattern wasn’t right. He contacted Anders again, and as always, he was not available.
James finally had enough and broke ties with Anders.
That’s when he started meeting other agencies, asking for quotes.
When we met, I asked him to share his ads account with me before I sent him a proposal because how the ads account was would factor in.
He was surprised by this, as no other agency had asked this before. The rest merely mentioned how good they were before sending their quotes.
Once I gained access, I found that Anders had simply been using Smart Ads, a type of automated advertising that Google Ads offers for businesses where their AI takes care of everything for you.
Great for businesses that know nothing about Google Ads, but it’s not very efficient or flexible which is why no expert uses them.
Think of it as a blanket catch all version of advertising. Anything and everyone whether they are relevant to your business or not.
For two years, Anders had been using subpar automated advertising and set up automated reporting, meaning once he turned on the ads there was never any need for him to check it again.
I had to start from zero with this account basically.
I presented my findings, described to him why things worked or didn’t work properly, and presented options on how to move forward.
I had earned enough trust for James to allow me to start working on his account, and I got to work.
He noticed the difference right away.
Every month, I would send him my report where I talk about what I did that month, what the numbers mean and suggest, and what I’m planning on doing next month.
He emails me every once in a while asking to start a new ad campaign, or asks for my suggestion on how to move forward and improve things.
The first time he did and I answered with my suggestions, he said something that deeply moved me.
That’s what it feels like to have a marketing partner on your side.
Someone you can rely on, someone that is there to help you grow.
Not many people in the marketing industry believe this is the right path. For most, the right path is anything that makes money as quickly as possible.
I believe in slow and steady.
In generating trust through my knowledge and expertise. In helping solve your marketing problems even if it doesn’t lead to me making money right away.
I believe in helping you first, and that trust is what turns strangers into clients.
That’s the style of marketing I do. Marketing that generates trust and builds long term happy relationships between you and your customers.
In order to achieve that, there is a very specific piece of information that you need to know about advertising.
You don’t make money from ads.
Ads are only the beginning.
It’s the same thing I tell everyone that is looking to become a client of mine, because this information changes how you view advertising altogether.
Once you know this, the lights turn on and you realize how much time and money you have spent on advertising that leads nowhere.
Sign up below and I’ll share this with you and we can set up a consult to talk about your ads after.
Thank you for your attention, I can’t wait to work with you.
